Do you have Long Covid or another post-acute infection syndrome (such as ME/CFS, MCAS, &/or POTS)? I’d love to have you be a virtual art model & share your story. While this project started autobiographically, I have expanded to create pieces based off of others’ chronic conditions. These are part of the Friends & Lovers series.
BIPOC, trans/non-binary/genderqueer, fat, multiply disabled, & older adult people are especially encouraged to reach out. If I can adjust the format to be more accessible for you, please don’t hesitate to let me know. For now, please folks 18+ only, even though kids with long covid do need continued advocacy.
To participate please email me:
1. Some images of yourself, face &/or full body. A mixture of both, with different outfits is extra appreciated! They can be as sick or as flattering as you like. You can wear a mask/respirator, or not. If you prefer a picrew or other art of yourself to photographs, I understand and will try to create a likeness in similar vibes, but without infringing upon the original artist’s work.
2. A description of some of your symptoms or what your Long Covid, ME/CFS, MCAS, dysautonomia, or other post-viral illness feels like physically &/or emotionally.
3. Lastly, let me know if you would like to be credited (a name, a single link, or anonymously), and location (as vague or specific as you’re comfortable). You can also include any additional details like your age, how long it’s been since your acute infection, etc.
Email!
or manually: illmarks @ nyxmir . com
(without spaces), subject line please include [illmarks story]
I will use the images for drawing reference, but will not post them on the blog. Excerpts from your symptom descriptions may be used in the image or text. I’m self-taught as a traditional artist and make take some creative licenses, but I will do my best to handle your story and symptoms with care. These will take me some time, and I might need to close submissions if this…goes viral, but at present I have a lot of bookmarks and will welcome as many submissions as I can!
Thank you so much for sharing your limited spoons & beautiful souls!
