this is what it feels like [CW: illness, body horror illustration]

Symptom: Grief Acceptance

the cocoon is shed, and crumples around the feet of the butterfly-human, who spreads large beautiful iridescent blue butterfly wings. Their antennae are perked up, and their body has a dleightly evolved version of the markings from the previous image when they're in the cocoon. The wings are full of shimmer sparkles, and sheening ink which give them a beautiful material property that differs from the background (colored pencil) or even the matte inks used for most of the body.

Symptom: Grief Acceptance

I’m not here yet, but I thought making some aspirational art would be nice.

I also realized after the fact that there’s a similar butterfly on the cover of How To Be Sick: A Buddhist-Inspired Guide for the Chronically Ill and their Caregivers which I’m currently reading. The first edition’s butterfly was blue as well!

This piece is a companion to the previous piece, “Symptom: Back in my Cocoon”

@illmarks @moss this is beautiful in so many ways. Thanks for mentioning the book too. Edit: duly requested it to be added to stock at the local library.
